A niobium 2-ethylhexanoate derivative characterized in that it contains niobium in a proportion of 13 to 16 mass% and carbon in a proportion falling within the range of 50 to 58 mass% and consists only of niobium and oxygen atoms and 2-ethylhexyl acid residue. This derivative can be produced by reacting pentakis(alkoxy)niobium with 2-ethylhexyl acid. Further, there is provided an organic acid metal salt composition characterized by containing this derivative, a precursor of metal other than niobium and at least one organic solvent. A thin film containing a niobium element and a non- niobium metal can be produced by coating a base material with the organic acid metal salt composition and heating the same. La présente invention concerne un dérivé 2-éthylhexanoate de niobium caractérisé en ce qu'il contient du niobium dans une proportion de 13 à 16 % en masse et du carbone dans une proportion dans une gamme de 50 à 58 % en masse et est seulement constitué d'atomes de niobium et d'oxygène et de résidus acide 2-éthylhexylique. Ce dérivé peut être produit en faisant réagir le pentakis(alcoxy)niobium avec l'acide 2-éthylhexylique. En outre, la présente invention fournit une composition d'un sel métallique d'un acide organique caractérisée en ce qu'elle contient ce dérivé, un précurseur à base de métal différent du niobium et au moins un solvant organique. Une couche mince contenant un élément niobium et un métal différent du niobium peut être produite en enduisant un matériau de base par la composition de sel métallique d'acide organique et en chauffant ce dernier.
