The invention is directed to a method for polishing a cutting edge on a cutting instrument, comprising contacting a cutting edge of a cutting instrument with a polishing pad and a chemical-mechanical polishing composition comprising particles of an abrasive, and a liquid carrier, wherein the abrasive is suspended in the liquid carrier, and abrading at least a portion of the cutting edge to polish the cutting edge. The invention further provides a cutting instrument having a highly uniform edge. L'invention porte sur un procédé de polissage d'un rebord tranchant sur un instrument tranchant, consistant à mettre en contact un rebord tranchant d'un instrument tranchant avec tampon à polir et une composition à polir chimio-mécanique contenant des particules d'un abrasif, et un support liquide, l'abrasif étant suspendu dans le support liquide, et à abraser au moins une partie du rebord tranchant afin de polir le rebord tranchant. Cette invention se rapporte aussi à un instrument tranchant présentant une rebord très uniforme.
