A portable device for to notifying a user of an event, the device being capable c providing a user-operable function to a user and having a screen to display function information in accordance with the function being operated by the user, wherein the device is arranged to determine that an event independent of the function has occurred, generate event information about the event and display at least some of the event information on the screen in a location of the screen that is dependent on the function information currently being displayed. L'invention concerne un dispositif portable permettant de signaler un événement à un utilisateur. Ce dispositif permet de fournir à un utilisateur une fonction exécutable par un utilisateur et a un écran permettant d'afficher les informations fonction conformément à la fonction que l'utilisateur est en train d'exécuter. Ce dispositif permet de déterminer si un événement indépendant de la fonction est survenu, de générer une information événement à propos de l'événement et d'afficher au moins l'information événement sur l'écran dans une position de l'écran qui dépend de l'information fonction actuellement affichée.
