A method of controlling the volume of user-plane traffic on the Iub or Iub/Iur interface between a Radio Network Controller and a Node B of a UMTS Radio Access Network during periods of overload. The method comprises, for individual uplink or downlink connections established over the Iub or Iub/Iur interface, monitoring at the Radio Network Controller the late arrival of frames at the Radio Network Controller or at the Node B transmitted over the Iub or Iub/Iur interface, and based on the results of said monitoring, causing a reduction in the Iub or Iub/Iur load for a connection when appropriate. L'invention porte sur un procédé de régulation du volume du trafic au niveau utilisateur sur l'interface Iub ou l'interface Iub/Iur entre un contrôleur réseau radio et un noeud B d'un réseau d'accès radio UMTS pendant des périodes de surcharge. Le procédé consiste à, pour des connexions individuelles de liaison montante ou liaison descendante établies sur l'interface Iub ou l'interface Iub/Iur, surveiller, au niveau du contrôleur réseau radio, l'arrivée tardive de trames au niveau du contrôleur réseau radio ou au niveau du noeud B transmises sur l'interface Iub ou l'interface Iub/Iur, et en fonction des résultats de cette surveillance, réduire la charge de l'interface Iub ou de l'interface Iub/Iur d'une connexion, si approprié.
