Summary:An application device for applying a liquid to a member to which the liquid is to be applied, the application being made by controlling the quantity of the liquid discharged from a discharge opening (5ca) of a nozzle plate (5c). A glass-made thin flat plate (71) is provided so as to face a bottom surface of the nozzle plate (5c), and a controller (9) controls the flat plate (71) to move it vertically, enabling it to be in contact with an application liquid drop L. When the flat plate (71) is caused to be in contact with the liquid drop L at the discharge opening (5ca) of the nozzle plate (5c), the liquid drop L spreads, while pulling the flat plate (71) with which the liquid drop L is in contact, between the flat plate (71) and the nozzle plate (5c) to form an application liquid film. This causes the flat plate (71) to be adhered to the nozzle plate (5c) side. As a result, that portion of the application liquid which is near the discharge opening (5ca) is prevented from being in contact with air, and this prevents the nozzle discharge opening from clogging by solidification of the application liquid.
