The scanner scans (S502-S508) the address range to determine (S505) whether a digital certificate has been installed for each address in the address range. The scanner receives (S506) digital certificate information when the digital certificate has been installed for an address (S505=Yes). The address range that is scanned may include addresses associated with an installed digital certificate and addresses not associated with an installed digital certificate. Selon l'invention, un dispositif de balayage (175) découvre des certificats numériques par balayage d'un ensemble d'adresses. Le dispositif de balayage balaye (S502-S508) l'ensemble d'adresses afin de déterminer (S505) si un certificat numérique a été installé pour chaque adresse dans l'ensemble d'adresses. Le dispositif de balayage reçoit (S506) des informations de certificat numérique lorsque le certificat numérique a été installé pour une adresse (S505 = Oui). L'ensemble d'adresses qui est balayé peut contenir des adresses associées à un certificat numérique installé et des adresses non associées à un certificat numérique installé.
