Summary:A new cellulose excipient, UICEL-XL, suitable for use as a binder, filler, and/or disintegrant in the development of solid dosage forms is described. UICEL-XL incorporates a cross-linking agent which provides the excipient with a high degree of crystallinity, high water affinity, and a high specific surface area, thus providing good disintegration properties. UICEL-XL, however, also has the unique distinction of being an effective binder due to its high tensile strength. L'invention concerne un nouvel excipient cellulose, UICEL-XL, pouvant être utilisé en tant que liant, charge de remplissage et/ou agent désintégrant dans l'élaboration de formes dosifiées solides. UICEL-XL contient un agent de réticulation qui lui confère un degré élevé de cristallinité, une affinité élevée pour l'eau et une surface spécifique élevée, ce qui permet d'obtenir de bonnes propriétés de désintégration. UICEL-XL se caractérise également en ce qu'il est un liant efficace du fait d'une résistance à la traction élevée.
