Summary:An association between psychiatric disorders and disorders comorbid with psychiatric disorders, and genetic markers in the 8p23 genomic region is described. Markers are also provided to diagnose or detect a susceptibility to disorders comorbid with panic disorder and independently of comorbidity with panic disorder. Methods and surrogate markers for detecting the orientation of the Inv8p23 inversion fragment, thereby diagnosing psychiatric disorders or comorbid disorders or a susceptibility to psychiatric disorders or comorbid disorders, are also disclosed. The methods described herein are also useful for determining responsiveness of drugs useful for treating psychiatric disorders. L'invention établit une association entre des troubles psychiatriques/comorbides et les troubles psychiatriques, et s'intéresse aux marqueurs génétiques dans la région génomique 8p23. L'invention décrit également des marqueurs génétiques qui permettent de diagnostiquer ou de détecter la sensibilité aux troubles comorbides associés ou indépendants du trouble panique. Par ailleurs, l'invention décrit des procédés et des marqueurs substituts qui permettent de détecter l'orientation du fragment d'inversion Inv8p23, et de diagnostiquer ainsi les troubles psychiatriques ou les troubles comorbides, ou une susceptibilité aux troubles psychiatriques ou aux troubles comorbides. Ces procédés servent également à déterminer la réceptivité aux médicaments utilisés pour traiter les troubles psychiatriques.
