La présente invention concerne une solution de revêtement permettant de former un revêtement résistant à la corrosion sur une surface métallique. Cette solution contient un silicate soluble dans l'eau et au moins un ion métallique (X) sélectionné parmi ceux possédant une valence inférieure ou égale à +4 ; ladite solution de revêtement forme un réseau aqueux silicate-X de manière que le silicate reste soluble et que, lors du contact avec une surface métallique (Y), un revêtement comportant du silicate-X et Y soit formé.
