Summary:A polynucleotide derivative comprising a polynucleotide in which one or more nucleotides have been replaced with a nucleotide derivative represented by the following general formula (5): (5) wherein R , R , R , R , R , R , R , and R are the same or different and each represents hydrogen, amino, mono(lower alkyl)amino, di(lower alkyl)amino, hydroxy, alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, acyloxy, halogeno, cyano, thiol, or optionally substituted phenyl, provided that not all of R , R , R , R , R , R , R , and R are hydrogen and that R , R , and R may be bonded to R , R , and R , respectively, to form an optionally substituted aryl; and R represents hydrogen or hydroxy.
