It is intended to clarify the relationship between high plasma Lp(a) and LDL levels and an increase in the risk of atheroma sclerosis. It is also intended to pathologically analyze atheromatous lesions of Tg WHHL rabbits to thereby clarify that Tg WHHL rabbits form progressive lesions over a wider scope than non-Tg WHHL rabbits. A rabbit ([LDLr-/-, apo(a)+/-] or [LDLr-/-,apo(a)+/+]) obtained by mating a transgenic rabbit expressing human apolipoprotein (a) with a homozygous Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbit, characterized by having progressive athemomatous lesions in the aortic arch and the thoracic/abdominal aorta, or showing calcipexis or calcification in vessels. Cette invention a pour objectif de faire la lumière sur les rapports existant entre une concentration plasmatique élevée Lp (a) et de forts taux de lipoprotéines de basse densité (LDL) ainsi que sur une augmentation des risques d'athérosclérose. Elle a également pour objectif d'analyser sur le plan de la pathologie des lésions athéromateuses chez des lapins Tg WHHL, afin d'élucider comment ces lapins développent des lésions évolutives sur une plus grande échelle que les lapins non-Tg WHHL. L'invention porte sur un lapin ([LDLr-/-, apo (a)] ou [LDLr-/-, apao (a) +/+]) obtenu par l'accouplement d'un lapin transgénique exprimant une lipoprotéine humaine (a) avec un lapin Watanabe homozygote à hyperlipidémie transmissible par héritage (WHHL), se caractérisant par le fait qu'il présente des lésions athéromateuses évolutives de la crosse aortique et de l'aorte thoracique/abdominale ou bien qu'il présente une calcipexie ou calcification des vaisseaux.
