A novel water-soluble keratin derivative and use thereof. Useful materials including a high-energy wave absorber (1), a luminescent substrate (2), an improver of material weather resistance (3), a water repellent agent (4) and a foaming agent (5) are provided from a water-soluble keratin obtained by alkali treatment of feathers and a modified keratin therefrom. L'invention concerne un nouveau dérivé de kératine soluble dans l'eau et ses applications. Ce dérivé est obtenu par traitement alcalin de plumes et d'une kératine modifiée et permet d'obtenir des matériaux utiles, y compris un absorbeur d'ondes de haute énergie (1), un substrat luminescent (2), une substance améliorant la résistance aux intempéries des matériaux (3), un agent hydrofuge (4) et un agent moussant (5).
