Summary:Preferred embodiments of the current invention relate to methods of preventing and/or treating hearing loss by administration of L-carnitine or its derivatives. More particularly, administration of L-carnitine or its derivatives is disclosed for preventing and/or treating hearing loss caused to mothers and/or their offspring during the perinatal period by the ototoxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents, aminoglycoside antibiotics, as well as excess noise. Les modes de réalisation préférés de la présente invention concernent des méthodes de prévention et/ou de traitement de la perte de l'audition par administration de L-carnitine ou de ses dérivés. Plus particulièrement, est décrite l'administration de L-carnitine ou de ses dérivés dans la prévention et/ou le traitement de la perte de l'audition provoquée par les mères et/ou leur descendance pendant la période périnatale à cause des effets ototoxiques d'agents chimiothérapeutiques, antibiotiques aminoglycosides, de même que du bruit excessif.
