The process for producing a 1,2-diol is characterized by reacting an olefin with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a polymer having a sulfo group. L'invention concerne un procédé de production de 1,2-diol par mise en réaction d'oléfine et de peroxyde d'hydrogène. Ce procédé est très efficace et très sélectif, avec une récupération et une réutilisation faciles du catalyseur. Il n'utilise pas d'acide fort ni de base forte qui provoquent la corrosion des appareils. Ce procédé est caractérisé par la mise en réaction d'une oléfine et de peroxyde d'hydrogène en présence d'un polymère comportant un groupe sulfo.
