La présente invention se rapporte à un procédé de traitement de surface pour magnésium et/ou alliage de magnésium, qui consiste à traiter le magnésium et/ou l'alliage de magnésium avec une solution de traitement chimique aqueuse (A) contenant 0,001 à 10 % en masse d'un composé à base de carbonate. Ce procédé de traitement de surface combine l'utilisation d'un agent de traitement qui ne contient sensiblement aucune substance nuisible pour l'environnement ou pour le corps humain ainsi qu'une faible résistance électrique du film de revêtement produit.
