A sterilizer for sterilizing a material to be treated by applying microwaves of a domestic microwave oven or the like the container of which incorporates a fixed electrodeless discharge valve with sealed substances such as mercury that discharges by receiving microwaves and emits ultraviolet waves. A material to be treated is retained inside the container so that the surface to be treated surface to be sterilized of the material may face the ultraviolet emission plane.
