A containment flap for an absorbent article, such as an incontinence garment, has elasticity in the long axis and extensibility of the flap with a low modulus of elasticity in its transverse direction. The long axis tension of the flap has a force vector normalized to the transverse direction when the flap is placed in curvature over the body of a wearer, thereby providing a force for extending the flap in the transverse direction to maintain contact with the body of the wearer when the garment begins to sag, such as may happen due to gravity when the garment is loaded with absorbed bodily fluids. Material suitable for constructing such flaps is further disclosed. L'invention concerne un rabat de confinement destiné à un article absorbant, tel qu'une culotte d'incontinence, élastique dans le sens de la longueur et extensible, avec un faible module d'élasticité, dans le sens de la largeur. La tension du rabat dans le sens de la longueur possède un vecteur de force normalisé par rapport au sens de la largeur lorsque le rabat est placé de façon incurvée sur le corps de l'utilisateur. On obtient ainsi une force permettant d'allonger le rabat dans le sens de la largeur et de le maintenir en contact avec le corps de l'utilisateur lorsque le vêtement commence à s'affaisser sous l'effet de la gravité et de l'accumulation de liquides biologiques absorbés. L'invention concerne également des matériaux adéquats destinés à la fabrication de ces rabats.
