The present invention provides a portable patient turning and lifting device (10) and associated methods for turning and lifting an immobilized patient. The device (10) comprises at least one inflation support bladder (16) configured to be secured between the patient's body (14) and the patient supporting surface (18) such as a bed. The bladder is inflated with pressurized fluid. The inflation bladder (16) is secured by a specialized garment that is worn by the immobilized patient. An embodiment configured to be worn about the torso comprises a vest (20) with two inflation bladders (16) oriented on the left and right sides of the back (22) of the garment (20). At least one fluid pump system (80) is provided in communication with the bladders (16) and is fitted with a controller (126) to tailor the sequencing and timing of the inflation to reposition the patient's body. La présente invention concerne un dispositif portatif permettant de soulever et de tourner des patients ainsi que des méthodes associées permettant de tourner et de soulever un patient immobilisé. Ce dispositif comprend au moins une vessie gonflable conçue pour être fixée entre le corps du patient et la surface supportant le patient, telle qu'un lit. La vessie est gonflée avec un fluide sous pression. De préférence, la vessie de gonflage est fixée à l'aide d'un vêtement spécialisé qui est porté par le patient immobilisé. Dans un mode de réalisation, le dispositif se présente sous la forme d'un vêtement conçu pour être porté au niveau du torse et possédant deux vessies gonflables placées sur les côtés gauche et droit du vêtement. De préférence, au moins une pompe à fluide communique avec les vessies et elle est de préférence équipée d'un dispositif de régulation adaptant le séquençage et le rythme du gonflage de manière à repositionner le corps du patient.
