The carbon monoxide pump selectively diverts carbon monoxide from main stream combustion products, the catalyst at least partially oxidizes the carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and the venting holes provide an alternative path for the diverted carbon monoxide and the oxidized carbon monoxide to check or reduce carbon monoxide inhalation by a smoker. L'invention porte sur un article pour fumeur comportant une colonne de tabac, une enveloppe, et une pompe à CO contenant un adsorbeur de CO et éventuellement un catalyseur transformant le CO en CO2 et des trous d'aération jouxtant l'adsorbeur. Ladite pompe extrait sélectivement le CO du courant principal de produits de combustion, le catalyseur transforme au moins partiellement le CO en CO2, tandis que les trous d'aération constituent une autre voie d'élimination du CO et du CO2 afin d'en stopper ou réduire l'inhalation par le fumeur.
