A surgical method for treating urinary incontinence is performed by securing a suture (510) within a patient's body, retrieving a portion of the suture (510) into the patient's vagina, and supporting the patient's urethra using the suture (510). A surgical method for elevating a patient's urethra in order to treat urinary incontinence is also performed by securing an anchor (509) in a patient.
