An apparatus for use on a hospital bed is disclosed that includes a housing (12), a speaker (20), and a waterproof cover (14). The speaker (20) is located within an interior region (48) of the housing (12) adjacent to an opening (48) extending through the surface (30, 36) of the housing (12). The waterproof cover (14) is attached to the surface (30, 36) to seal the opening (48) against water penetration into the interior region (48) of the housing (12). In addition to or as an alternative to the speaker (20), the apparatus may include a switch (18) with an actuating surface (46). In this alternative embodiment, the housing (12) includes a switch access opening (40) and the switch (18) is located in the interior region (42) of the housing (12) with the actuator surface (46) positioned in the switch access opening (40). The waterproof cover (14) is attached to the surface (30, 36) of the housing (12) to seal the switch access opening (40) against water penetration. Le haut-parleur (20) est situé dans une zone intérieure (48) du logement (12), de façon adjacente à une ouverture (48) traversant la surface (30, 36) du logement (12). Le couvercle étanche à l'eau (14) est fixé à la surface (30, 36) de manière à obturer l'ouverture (48) pour empêcher toute pénétration d'eau dans la zone intérieure (48) du logement (12). Dans une forme de réalisation complémentaire ou substitutive du haut-parleur (20), l'appareil peut comporter un interrupteur (18) présentant une surface d'actionnement (46). Dans cette forme de réalisation substitutive, le logement (12) comporte une ouverture d'accès d'interrupteur (40) et l'interrupteur (18) est situé dans la zone intérieure (42) du logement (12), la surface d'actionnement (46) étant positionnée dans l'ouverture d'accès d'interrupteur (40). Le couvercle étanche à l'eau (14) est fixé à la surface (30, 36) du logement (12) de manière à obturer l'ouverture d'accès d'interrupteur (40) pour empêcher toute pénétration d'eau.
