Summary:A surgical system for use in removing smoke created in surgical procedures from within an insufflated surgical cavity can comprise a discharge assembly having an end located within said surgical cavity so that surgical smoke inside said cavity can pass from said cavity and through said discharge assembly; a discharge limb having an operational site end and an outlet end, and a wall between said operational site end and said outlet end, in use said open operational site end sealingly connected to said discharge assembly so that said surgical smoke can pass from said discharge assembly and into said discharge limb; and a filter connected to the outlet end of the discharge limb, at least part of said discharge limb comprising a breathable material configured to allow the passage of water vapor through the wall of the discharge limb without allowing the passage of liquid water or surgical smoke.
