Summary:Techniques for performing IP configuration after handoff in a WLAN are described. A station associates with a first access point in the WLAN and performs IP configuration to obtain a first set of IP configuration parameters. The station thereafter exchanges data via the first access point using the first set of IP configuration parameters. The station performs handoff from the first access point to a second access point and performs IP configuration after the handoff. While the IP configuration is in progress, the station continues to exchange data via the second access point using the first set of IP configuration parameters. This avoids interruption in IP connectivity. After completing the IP configuration, the station either (i) continues to exchange data using the first set of IP configuration parameters if new parameters are not obtained or (ii) exchanges data using a second set of IP configuration parameters if obtained.
