Along the optical axis from the object side to the image side, the compact zoom lens with three lens groups includes a negative power first lens group having a negative power first lens and a positive power second lens, a positive power second lens group having a positive power third lens, a negative power fourth lens leaned with the third lens and a positive power fifth lens, and a third lens group having a positive power sixth lens. The zoom lens matches requirements of optical properties for aberration correction. Minimum change of the distance between the first lens of the first lens group and the image forming plane from the WIDE position to the TELE position is used as the objective function of optimization.
