Summary:Herein described are at least a method and a system for processing vertical blanking interval (VBI) data such that the VBI data is suitable for transmission to a receiver. The method comprises generating one or more digital symbols at a first frequency, shaping the one or more digital symbols into one or more VBI data samples, first determining a first value that specifies a number of possible points that may be interpolated between two consecutive data samples of the one or more VBI data samples, and second determining a second value that is equal to one plus the number of points skipped before a point of the possible points is selected, and outputting the selected point based on an output frequency. The system may be described as a generalized VBI waveform generator comprising a symbol generator, a shaping filter, and a variable linear interpolator.
