Summary:A method and a system for sorting a specific collection of documents in various orderings, and defining a new ranking metrics by composing multiple ranking to provide a user with highly relevant search results is provided. Collections of documents are sorted with multiple ranking metrics, a new collection of documents in higher-ranking positions of the sorted collections of documents is determined; and an arithmetical operation between the new collections of documents in higher-ranking positions is performed. A search result is determined by the documents in higher-ranking positions as result of the arithmetical operation. Final search results are acquired by performing an arithmetical operation among specific (with fixed search results) collections of documents sorted in various orderings. The most suitable arrangement of search results can be specified by interactively combining such ranking metrics.
