Summary:A multipurpose communication device for use with a video display device and an input device to transmit data to a remote multipurpose communication device of another user through a telephone line, or to receive data from a remote multipurpose communication device. The multipurpose communication device is capable of determining if the remote multipurpose communication device of the remote party is of the same type, and capable of calling a corresponding application program when receiving a communication from the remote party, so that the transmitting data can be dispatched and received by different application programs.
