Summary:The invention relates to a catalytic hydrorefining of mixtures of hydrocarbons which contain hetero atoms such as nitrogen, sulphur, halogens and/or oxygen. The characterizing feature of the invention is that nickel or a nickel-molybdenum alloy containing more than 30% nickel, residue molybdenum, is thermally treated in an air atmosphere at temperatures of 400 DEG to 1200 DEG C. for a period of 0.25 to 10 hours, whereafter it is subjected to a hydrogen activation in the temperature range of 200 DEG to 600 DEG C.
