Summary: | A pulse forming network (13) or capacitor load is charged to a precise voltage from an energy storing device (11,12) with a circuit including a transformer (15) having a primary (38) connected in series with a switch (14) and storage device (11,12) and a secondary (41) connected in series with the load (12) and a monitor circuit (21). The monitor circuit (21) develops an output signal indicative of the load voltage and current. In response to the output signal increasing to a predetermined value the switch (14) is opened. The transformer (15), having a substantial leakage inductance, releases its stored energy when the switch (14) is opened. The transformer stored energy is coupled to the load (17) and to a capacitor (43) connected to the primary (38). Charge stored in the capacitor (43) after the load requirements have been satisfied is transferred back to the energy storage device (11,12). |
