Summary: | This invention provides a process for disproportionating rosin, poly-unsaturated fatty acid or mixture thereof, characterized in that the disproportionation reaction is conducted in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) at least one iodide selected from the group consisting of sodium iodide and potassium iodide and (B) at least one iron compound selected from the group consisting of iron, iron oxides, iron hydroxides and iron sulfides. The disproportionated product of this invention affords an emulsifier suitable for emulsion polymerization when neutralized with an alkali. |
