Summary: | The height of a body of electrically conductive liquid is measured by immersing in the liquid an electrode forming an electrical resistance. The electrode is connected with two conductors electrically insulated from the liquid and tied, in turn, to an alternating-current source which is not connected to ground. The resulting network of electrode, conductors and alternating-current source forms an electrical circuit to which responds a device for measuring the potential difference which is a function of the liquid level between the potential of the liquid in a region outside the electrode-encircling stray current and a potential outside the electrode. |
