Summary:1344958 1 - Hydrocarbyl - 3 - halo - 5- thiadiazolyl - imidazolidinone - 2 compounds BAYER AG 11 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 22165/72 Heading C2C The invention comprises the compounds of formula in which R is a 1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl radical, optionally substituted in the 5-position (e.g. by alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkenylthio, alkynylthio, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyalkylthio, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, halocycloalkyl, alkylsulphoxyl, alkenylsulphoxyl, alkynylsulphoxyl, alkylsulphonyl, alkenylsulphonyl, alkynylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphoxyl, aralkylsulphonyl, or optionally substituted aryl, aralkyl or aralkylthio), R1 is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, R2 is halogen, and R3 is halogen, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy, alkylthio, alkenylthio or alkynylthio; their preparation by halogenation of a corresponding 5-hydroxy or 4,5-dihydroxy compound; and their use as herbicides. Starting materials are prepared by condensing an N - thiadiazol - 2 - yl - N1 - R1 - urea with glyoxal to obtain a 4,5-dihydroxy-imidazolidinone-2 compound, which can be etherified at the 4-OH group.
