1413519 Antimicrobial &c compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 1 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 55632/72 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical preparations showing antimicrobial and anthelminthic actions contain (I) (including salts thereof) as active ingredient wherein the SCN-group is in the 4-, 5-, 6- or 7- position, R 1 represents hydrogen, a straightchain or branched alkyl or alkenyl radical having 1 to 17 carbon atoms, an alkyl or alkenyl radical having a total of at most 6 carbon atoms and substituted by halogen, -CN, -OH, alkoxy, acyl, alkythio or dialkylamino, an optionally C 1-4 -alkyl-substituted mono-, bi- or tricyclic cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl radical having 3 to 10 carbon atoms in the ring structure, which can also be bound by way of a CH 2 -group to the substituent Y or to the heterocycle, R 2 represents hydrogen, halogen or an alkyl, alkoxy or acyl radical having at most 4 carbon atoms, X represents oxygen, sulphur or R 3 represents hydrogen, an alkyl or alkenyl radical having at most 5 carbon atoms, a phenyl or benzyl radical, a dimethylamino- or diethylamino-alkyl radical having 2-5 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, an alkoxycarbonyl radical having 2-5 carbon atoms, an aliphatic acyl radical having 2-5 carbon atoms, or a polyhydroxyalkyl radical (saccharide), Y represents oxygen, sulphur, -SO-, -SO 2 -, or | NR 4 n is 0 or 1, R 4 represents hydrogen, an alkyl or alkenyl radical having at most 5 carbon atoms, or together with the N-atom and the substituent R 1 a saturated or unsaturated heterocycle having 4 to 6 carbon atoms which may also contain a further hetero atom 0 or S or the group | -N-R 5 and R 5 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. Administration may be orally or abomasally. Other optional compounding ingredients include, e.g. vitamins, antibiotics, chemotherapeutical agents, pesticides (bacteriostatics. fungistatics, bactericides, coccidiostatics), hormone preparations, anabolics or other growth promoters and/or other anthelminthics (including nematocides, trematocides and cestocides many of which are specified.
