Summary:Document handling apparatus for positioning documents in a sorting operation. As the documents are driven or otherwise propelled into the sorting pockets, control mechanism in the form of a continuously rotating, multi-bladed wheel, located adjacent the pocket entrance, contacts a portion of each document and moves the trailing edge thereof to a sideways position out of the path of the leading edge of the succeeding document. The wheel includes extended blade portions wherein such portions contact the trailing edge of the documents for laterally moving the trailing edge thereof to a position so as to provide a clear, unobstructed path for the succeeding document.
