Summary:1359472 Pyran derivatives AGFA-GEVAERT 2 Aug 1971 [1 Sept 1970] 41749/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] 3 - Methyl - spiro - di - betanaphthopyran is prepared by refluxing 2 - hydroxy - 1 - naphthaldehyde and methyl ethyl ketone in a 2 : 1 molar ratio in acidic ethanol to produce the pyrilium salt. The spiropyran is produced when the solution is made alkaline. 1,3,3-Trimethylindolinospirobenzopyran is prepared by refluxing equimolar quantities of salicaldehyde and 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-methyleneindolenine in ethanol.
