Summary:A freeze actuated suction throttling valve for use in an automobile air conditioning system between the evaporator and the compressor to maintain refrigerant temperature within the evaporator above a temperature which will cause the evaporator to accumulate frost on its exterior surfaces. The throttling valve includes a valve member upstream from a valve seat which is movable toward a closed position by an actuator also upstream from the valve seat. The actuator includes a rigid cup-shaped member filled with water and having a flexible diaphragm covering its one end. When the water freezes, the resulting expansion distorts the flexible diaphragm and moves the valve member toward a closed position.
