An austenitic heat-resisting steel comprises: - C 0À03-0À3% Cr 15-21% Mn 4-12% Nb/Ta 0À001-0À5% Ni 4-15% Si 0À16-0À64% Ti 0À001-0À5% and optionally {B 0À0001 to 0À05% one or both of V 0À001 to 1% the balance, apart from impurities, being iron. The weight ratio of C to Ti+Nb+Ta is preferably more than 0À5. The steels may be used for super critical pressure boilers.
