Summary:1382525 Stabilized polycarbonates BAYER AG 10 Aug 1972 [11 Aug 1971] 37368/72 Heading C3R Aromatic polycarbonates based on bishydroxy aryl compounds are stabilized against heat and/or light degradation by addition during or after preparation of a neutral ester of phosphorous acid with at least one oxetane group. Preferred phosphites are tris-[(3-ethyloxethanyl-3)-methyl]-phosphite, tris-[(3-pentyloxetanyl-3 -methyl]-phosphite, phenyl-bis-[(3- ethyloxetanyl - 3) - methyl] - phosphite, 2 - phenoxy - spiro - (1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinane- 5,31-oxetane) and 3,3-bis-[spiro-(oxetane-31,511- (111,311,211 - dioxaphosphorinane - 211)) - oxymethyl]-oxetane. They may be added per se or dissolved in suitable solvents. The polycarbonates to be stabilized may have molecular weights between 10,000 and 100,000 and may be derived from hydroquinone, resorcinol, 4,41- dihydroxydiphenyl, bis - (hydroxyphenyl)- alkanes, bis - (hydroxyphenyl) - sulphides, -ethers, -ketones, -sulphoxides or sulphones and also α,α1 - bis - (hydroxyphenyl) - diisopropylbenzene as well as the corresponding nuclearalkylated or nuclear-halogenated compounds. Examples compare the efficacy of prior art and novel stabilizers as additives to polycarbonate made from 4,41-dihydroxydiphenyl-2,2-propane and p-tert.-butylphenol.
