Summary:1333470 Phenolic resin composition FIBREGLASS Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [13 July 1971] 32877/71 Heading C3R A binder composition comprises a phenolformaldehyde-urea resin, urea and sodium lignosulphonate. The amounts of urea and lignosulphonate preferably range from 5-45% and 5-20% wt., respectively. The ratio of the solids content of the lignosulphonate to the solids content of the resin and urea is preferably 0À15-0À26. In an example a resin prepared by condensing 1 mol. phenol, 2À7 mol. HCHO, 1 mol. urea and 0À005 mol. polyethylene glycol using Ba(OH) 2 as catalyst is used in a binder solution comprising urea, emulsified oil, ammonia, ammonium sulphate, a silane additive, an orange dye, sodium lignosulphonate and water. In another example the resin used in the binder is prepared from 1 mol. phenol, 3À1 mol. HCHO, 0À11 mol. dicyandiamide, 0À23 mol. urea and optionally polyethylene glycol. Uses.-Bonding glass fibres.
