Summary:1,274,419. Couplings. CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 19 April, 1971 [7 Oct., 1970], No. 20103/71. Heading F2U. In a multi-stepped force fit connection between a shaft 21 and pulley hub 11 provision is made to supply high pressure liquid between the members, to facilitate their assembly and dismantling, from a point 33 near the end of the largest diameter step 22 to a point 34 at a mathematically determined distance from the other end of the hub. The distance is a stated function of the hub radius and thickness and Poison's ratio. As shown there are preferably five steps 22-26 of equal length and the non- pressured distance is arranged to be equal to the step length 26. The liquid is supplied from an inlet 37 through axial hub grooves 32 connected to annular grooves at the step shoulders A. A sealing ring may be fitted at the end B of the largest diameter shoulder 22.
