Summary:A process for preparing cyclohexadecanolide from 1,9-cyclohexadecadiene involving a number of steps. Monoepoxidized 1,9-cyclohexadecadiene is reduced to 9-cyclohexadecene-1-ol and oxidized to the corresponding unsaturated ketone and then hydrogenated to cyclohexadecanone. This upon oxidation in the presence of a boron trifluoride catalyst is converted into cyclohexadecanolide.
