A wheel rim 1, Fig. 2, upon which a pneumatic tyre 6 is mountable, comprises an annular endless rim base 2 which has an endless tyrebead-retaining flange along one side and a radially outwardly-facing annular gutter 8 adjacent the opposide side receiving a radially split beadretaining side ring 3, comprising a gutterengaging portion 9 extending radially inwardly into the gutter 8, an annular radially outwardlyextending side flange 15 integral with the portion 9 and flexible connector means joining together opposed ends 12, 13 of the split side ring 3 to permit lateral and radial flexing of the side ring 3 while retaining the portion 9 in the gutter 8 to prevent loss of the side ring 3 from the rim base. Adjacent each of the ends 12, 13 is a hole into which is welded a pin 16 having a hole 17 therethrough. A flexible cable 18, e.g. of corrosion-resistant metal, is passed through each of the holes 17 and the ends of the cable 18 are joined by a clamp 19. In a modification a split side ring 20, Fig. 3, has radially extending holes 21 adjacent each of its ends and a cable 23, whose ends are joined by a clamp 24, passes through the holes 21. In a further modification the cable 23 is fastened by a pair of buttons 25 secured to its ends, Fig. 5.
