Summary:1,163,890. Arylotriazolyl - styryl - benzotriazoles. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 10 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 17332/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3, C4 and D1] Novel compounds of the general Formula I in which R stands for hydrogen or a substituent and A denotes the residual members of a mono- or polynuclear aromatic carbocyclic ring system which is fused as indicated with the heterocyclic ring and which may contain further substituents and n is 1 to 3 are prepared by triazolysing a compound of the general Formula II for example, by oxidation with a Cu II salt, if desired, in the presence of air or sodium hypochlorite. 5 - Nitro - 2 - P 11 - R1 - styryl - benzotriazole, where R is H, Me or OMe, is prepared by condensing 5-nitrobenzotriazole-2-acetic acid with the corresponding p 11 -R-substituted benzaldehyde. 5-Amino-2-styryl-benzotriazole is prepared by the catalytic reduction of the corresponding nitro compound. 5 - Amino - 2 - (P 11 - methoxystyryl)benzotriazole is prepared by the catalytic reduction of the corresponding nitro compound.
