[Also in Division C4] An exposed photographic silver halide emulsion layer is developed with a mixture of developing agents comprising an anionic developing agent, e.g. hydroquinone or a derivative thereof and 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidinone, and a bis(pyridone) azine developing agent of the formula:- where R 1 and R 2 are each substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aralkyl, n and n1 are each 0 or 1 and Z 1 and Z 2 each represent the atoms necessary to complete a substituted or unsubstituted pyridone nucleus. The developing agents may be present in the developer and/or the light sensitive material and/or an image-receiving material for the silver salt diffusion process.
