Summary:1,116,840. Motor casings. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. 12 July, 1966 [13 July, 1965], No. 31341/66. Heading H2A. [Also in Division B3) A method of making the stator of a fractional horse-power D.C. motor comprises disposing on a mandrel 1 the stator-magnet 6 and an endshield 10 for the power take-off end of the motor, introducing the parts into a tubular casing 12 for the motor and then, by a high energy rate impulse forming method, deforming the casing to grip the magnet and shield, whereafter the mandrel is removed. The aluminium casing may be deformed by explosion, hydrospark or, as shown, electro-magnetically. Ribs 5 on the mandrel locate the magnet 6 and centre a ring 4 which is also gripped by the casing as this is deformed (right-hand side of Fig. 1) electromagnetically by field-shapers 13. A recess 3 may be provided in the ring 4 into which the other end shield (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), carrying brushes, is drawn by screws (17) after removal of the mandrel. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 896,923.
