Summary:1,236,943. Etching. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 3 July, 1968 [3 July, 1967], No. 31645/68. Heading B6J. [Also in Divisions G2-G3] Photographic process, particularly for the preparation of lithographic plates, comprises (1) etch-bleaching a photographic Ag image in a hydrophilic binder layer having a m.pt. above 180‹ F. and comprising gelatine, said layer being coated on a hydrophilic surface of a metal support, so that the hydrophilic surface is bared in the image areas, (2) etching the exposed areas, (3) plating Cu on the etched areas of the support surface to render them oleophilic, and (4) removing the residual hydrophilic binder layer. Preferably the Ag image is formed in a gelatino Ag halide emulsion (optionally of the directpositive type) and is etch-bleached with a solution of Specification 1,222,415, the support is anodized Al and is etched with aqueous FeCl 3 , and the Cu is deposited by applying CuCl 2 solution. Reference is also made to use of Zn and bimetallic supports.
