Summary:1,230,910. Lubricants. DOW CORNING CORP. 9 Sept., 1969 [7 Oct., 1968], No. 44406/69. Heading C5F. [Also in Division C3] A bag lubricant for tyre moulding comprises, by weight, 2-10% of a liquid dimethylpolysiloxane of not less than 30,000 cS/25‹ C. viscosity, 5-20% of a polyethylene- or polypropylene-glycol of molecular weight not less than 1000, 25-50% of mica of 160-600 U.S. Standard mesh, 0À5-5% of bentonite clay gelled with a polar solvent, 0À25-5% of lecithin and 25-55% of a hydrocarbon solvent of b.p. below 200‹ C. The polysiloxane should be dispersible in the hydrocarbon solvent, and may contain some mono- and/or tri-methylsiloxane units. The polyglycol may be a copolymer. Suitable polar solvents are methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, water, and propylene carbonate; a 3 : 1 weight ratio of bentonite : methanol is preferred. Suitable hydrocarbons are cyclohexane, toluene, gasoline and petroleum naphtha. The components are preferably added to the hydrocarbon solvent in the order: bentonite, polar solvent, lecithin, mica, polysiloxane and polyglyocl. In an example the mixture comprises, by weight, 7À5% polydimethylsiloxane of 500,000 cS/25‹ C., 7À5% poly-(50/50)- ethylene-propylene glycol of MW 2700, 1% soya lecithin, 37À5% 325-mesh mica, 2% bentonite, 0À67% methanol and 39À33% of an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent of b.p. 117- 142‹ C.
