Summary:Amidoisocyanates of the formula <FORM:1069195/C2/1> in which R is an alkylene or cycloalkyl radical, Q is an alkylene or cycloalkyl radical of more than 3 carbon atoms, X is a hydrogen atom or a group -CO-NH-R-NCO and z is 1-6, are prepared from a reaction mixture containing at least 4 mols. of an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diisocyanate with 1 mol. of a dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-Q-COOH at 50-200 DEG C., the dicarboxylic acid being one that does not form an anhydride under the reaction conditions. Examples are given of the manufacture of products from (1) hexamethylene diisocyanate and adipic, azelaic and sebacic acids; (2) tetramethylene diisocyanate and sebacic acid; and (3) cyclohexane-1,4-diisocyanate and adipic acid. The products of some of the examples are resinous. Other specified reagents are pentamethylene diisocyanate, cyclohexane - 1,3 - diisocyanate and 4,41 - diisocyanatodicyclohexylmethane on the one hand and hexahydroterephthalic acid on the other hand.
