The heater wire 31 of an electric toaster 10 is kept under tension to accommodate its expansion on heating. The heating unit 28 has a support 29 mounting the heater wire 31 and a leaf spring 32 and movable relative to a support 30, the wire 31 extending in serpentine fashion between the supports 29, 30, and being, tensioned by the spring 32 (see also Figs. 2-5, not shown). Several features are similar to those described in Specification 1,032,388. |
