Summary:(1) Dihydrovinblastine (Ia), dihydrovincristine (Ib), and dihydrodesmethylvinblastine (Ic): Ia; R = CH3 b; R = CHO c; R = H. (2) Non-toxic acid addn. salts of (I). (Ia) Dihydrochloride. (Ia) Sulphate (Ia) and (Ib) are anti-cancer agents (particularly active against P-1534 leukaemia in mice) of lower toxicity than corresponding dehydro-cpds. (vinblastine and vincristine). Thus (Ia) (20 mg./mouse on days 1, 6, and 10; total dose 60 mg.) gives 173% prolongation of life in mice with P-1534 leukaemia. (Ia) has LD505 mg./kg. (Ic) is useful as an intermediate in the synthesis of (Ib).
